Silver Lake Protection Association has formed a committee to investigate the possibility and process involved in forming a public inland lake protection and rehabilitation district.  We invite you to read the document provided by the State of Wisconsin concerning this process.  Please click here to download the pdf that explains what a Lake District is, how it is formed, and what we would have to do to ensure the future health of Silver Lake.

A meeting was held on Mar. 26, 2015 at the Salem Town Hall.  Stantec Corp. presented an extensive slide presentation of the 2015 Sonar Treatment Plan .  Mr Mark Kordus, our Project Manager traveled all the was from Stevens Point to bring us the information.  That slide show is presented here.  Unfortunately, you had to BE THERE to hear his presentation to get the full effect.  But we thank him for sharing his presentation on this website!

Please remember to inspect and clean your watercraft to prevent the spread of weeds.  It is our goal to preserve Silver Lake as an environmentally healthy lake and to educate all members to be responsible for the use of this irreplaceable resource.

PUBLIC HEARING Notice to Property Owners & SLPA Friends

TO:      Proposed Silver Lake Management District Property Owners

            Silver Lake Protection Association Members

FROM:  John Coffey, President, SLPA

Harry Laws, Chairman, SLPA Lake District Committee

RE:      PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING SILVER LAKE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT

6:00pm, MONDAY APRIL 12, 2021, SALEM LAKES VILLAGE HALL

The Silver Lake Protection Association made a presentation to the Salem Lakes Village Board on October 12, 2020.  This presentation followed the submittal of last August's petition results which showed that over 75% of property owners within the proposed boundary were in favor of forming the Silver Lake Management District.

Shortly after our presentation, the Salem Lakes Village Hall was closed due to the epidemic and has only recently been re-opened.

The Village Board has decided to hold a Public Hearing regarding the formation of the lake district, and it is scheduled for 6:00 pm, April 12th at the Village Hall, 9814 Antioch Road (Hwy 83), Salem.  An information session will be held immediately prior to the hearing, beginning at 5:30pm.

Inasmuch as there is some opposition to the lake district coming from our Silver Lake neighbors who live OUTSIDE the proposed district boundary, we are strongly encouraging you to show your support for the lake district by attending the upcoming Public Hearing.

Once the Silver Lake Management District is formed, it is anticipated that a Village-appointed Citizens Advisory Committee will be formed to help take the necessary steps to activate the lake district.  These steps include petitioning for a property-owner majority on the Board of Directors and holding an Annual Meeting to elect three property-owners to the five-member Board of Directors.  We hope the Annual Meeting can be held in late June.

While the lake district process is ongoing, the Silver Lake Protection Association will be undertaking this year's badly needed weed treatment. Approximately 24 acres, largely in the southwest portion of the lake, will be treated in late spring.  This treatment will deplete the Association's current cash reserves but will be the last one needed prior to the lake district's takeover of invasive weed management in 2022.

Please show your support and contact us with any questions or concerns.

The Village of Salem Lakes voted on April 19, to ask the Protection Association to present the petition to the Kenosha County Board, and take no further action on the citizens’ petition.
